Container is made from steel. Floor is of timber and doors may be either of steel or steel-faced plywood.

Open top containers are designed to ease the loading of particularly heavy lifts and awkward shaped equipment. Since the tarpaulin roof is inherently prone to damage, cargo subject to damage due the ingress of rain should not be moved in this type of container unless it receives some sort of secondary protection.

6.1m Open Top Container for operation by road, rail and sea of 20.32 and 24 tonnes

Open top containers are also available in 29.5m3 and 32.5m3 containers.
